CETT-ELTE BUDAPEST B.Ed. Programme

AFN-332/334 Language of Pedagogical Research 1 / 2 (2 hrs/wk, 2 credits)
(ex AT-212/216 Classroom Studies One 1 / 2)

The course has two main aims: to develop the linguistic, observational and analytical skills that students will need to undertake their classroom research project and write it up in the form of a B.Ed. thesis, and to complement the Principled ELT Methodology course with experience of real life in school classrooms. Students visit primary and secondary classrooms several times during the year, using a variety of observation schedules, some of which they will have developed themselves. Skills in recording and analysing their observations and data collection are developed through seminar discussions, observation diaries and/or written formal observation reports.

Assessment is based on written work, contributions to seminar work and general commitment.

One typical assignment on this course involves “shadowing” and English teacher by accompanying him or her throughout a day's work at school, and then writing up the experience in a more or less formal report. To read an example of one such report, click HERE.
