AFN-102/106 (ex AT-102/106) Developing Accuracy as Learners and Teachers I / 2 (2 hrs, 4 credits)

The aims of this two-semester course are to further develop student awareness about language and competence in generating accurate English. In this course there is a balance between traditional accuracy-focused practice and activities aimed at increasing language awareness. Working with tutors, students identify the gaps in their own knowledge and performance in English and set up Self-Directed Learning (SDL) activities aimed at filling these gaps. Class time is used for language practice and language awareness activities that cannot be achieved through SDL. Student self-assessment and informal teacher assessment are used to help students determine SDL needs. Formal assessment procedures such as tests are also used to determine student progress.

Grading criteria are negotiated between individual tutors and groups.
